What should you look out for before buying a Ford Model T?
As prices of veteran and vintage cars have soared in recent years, one car has largely bucked the trend – the Ford Model T.
Famously the car that put America on wheels through Henry Fords use of the moving production line. Ford made many different variants of the Model T – 2 door coupe, 2 door speedster, pickup, convertible, Fordoor…. with over 16 million produced between 1908 and 1927. Compared with other veteran/vintage cars, there are still a lot of Model T’s still on the roads today. Large numbers have arguably kept prices down but if you’re looking to buy a veteran/vintage car, there are a lot of positives to owning a Model T.
Firstly, considering some of the cars are more than a hundred years old there is a very good parts supply. In the UK and around the world there are also a good number of Model T owners clubs organising regular events and who can offer advice. Finally there are specialists who can help you find the right Model T but also help with servicing and repairs.
In this carphile.co.uk buyers guide, Richard Rimmer director of Oxfordshire Model T Ford specialist, The T Service, takes us through what he looks for when buying a Ford Model T.
