Shelsley Walsh Classic Nostalgia 2016 from Saturday 16th to 17th July promises to be an event to remember as the Midland Automobile Club celebrates 111 years of motorsport at the historic venue
With 111 years of history, Shelsley Walsh Classic Nostalgia 2016 (unashamedly) looks back at motoring from many decades at the venue.
Shelsley Walsh Classic Nostalgia 2016 – What’s on?
The full-capacity entry list is packed with a huge variety of famous and classic machines. Cars from Mini, Porsche, Austin, Lotus, Cooper, Bugatti and many more will be in action on the famous hill.
Auto Union and Stuck return to Shelsley Walsh
The star attraction at Classic Nostalgia is undoubtedly the incredible V16 Auto Union Grand Prix car. The car first appeared at Shelsley Walsh in June 1936, piloted by legendary driver Hans Stuck.
In its day, this incredible Grand Prix turned-hill-climb-car (designed by Dr Ferdinand Porsche) was a technological marvel. The Auto Union returns to Shelsley Walsh in 2016 with Stuck’s son, Hans-Joachim Stuck, behind the wheel.
Classic Nostalgia honours Group B Rallying
Fifty years later, Hannu Mikkola drove the then works Audi Sport Quattro Group B car to new Closed Car record at Shelsley of 29.51 seconds in 1986. A record that stood for many years. 30 years later Classic Nostalgia pays tribute to the cars and the stars of Group B rallying.
The cars that were banned from international rallying in the mid-eighties, as they were literally too fast, but many will be taking to the hill at Shelley. Jimmy McRae will take to the hill in a Metro 6R4. Russell Brookes will be in a Opel Manta 400 and many more.
Away from the hill
There is the chance for your car to star as a Concours d Elegance is staged for the first 100 cars entering. The winning car being invited to display on the MAC stand at November’s NEC Classic Car Show.
The event has a festival theme and visitors are encouraged to arrive in period dress. Prizes will be awarded for the best outfits.
The Courtyard will be filled with the sounds of music and dancing from the 1940s and 50s. There will be interviews with guest drivers (Hans Stuck will be chatting to Toby Moody on the Sunday) and a Spitfire performing in the Shelsley skies on Saturday. The Trig Aerobatics team will perform on both days.
Visitors are invited to get special commemorative T-Shirts and posters signed by famous drivers and special guests in attendance on both days.
Car clubs in attendance include – 6R4.net, Gordon Keeble Owners Club, MG Midget and Sprite Club, Dellow Register, Sporting Bears, MG Enthusiast Club, Jaguar Drivers Club.
Tickets and Admission
The track action starts at 9.00am on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th
Advanced tickets are still available.
Entry on the gate for both days is £20, children under 16 free.
