The Puch 500 was a small car produced by Steyr-Daimler-Puch in Graz, Austria. The company decided to resume car production in 1954, which like many car manufacturers had been halted during World War Two. To avoid the costs of developing a totally new design, Steyr Puch reached an agreement with Fiat to produce a car based on its 500 model. The engine cover, roof, engine, transmission and carriage was produced in-house by Steyr.
Puch 500 car – history of ‘AEM 655’
This car is One of only 33 right-hand drive models produced, of which it is is believed that only two cars remain in existence today. The other surviving car resides in the Steyr Puch museum in Austria.
‘AEM 655’ was first registered in the UK on October 21st 1960 to Ryders of Liverpool as the original UK demonstration car. Incredibly, the original delivery note from the factory to Ryders in 1960 still exists and is included in the sale.
Purchased by the current owner in 2013, the previous owner had kept the car in storage for 28 years. Since then this wonderful little car has been road readied, with fresh interior trim, new tyres and a few other minor mechanical touches.
Steyr Puch 500 for sale at Silversone Auctions

With the other surviving car housed in a museum this is likely the only opportunity to acquire one of these special cars. Silverstone auctions estimate the hammer to fall on this1960 Steyr Puch 500 at between £15,000 and £18,000.
